Fifth-Generation Lightcycle

The new, redesigned light racer in "Tron: Legacy".

Technology has pushed us to the limit. We have special effects, faster computers, and products. Last year, James Cameron bought us Avatar. Now, Walt Disney Pictures brings us Tron: Legacy, a breathtaking, heart-pounding (not much actually), and technologically advanced sci-fi flick, a sequel to Tron. Set in the modern day, it tells the story of Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), a tech-savvy 27 year-old who has been haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his father, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), who was last seen on a chilly night in 1989. Poor Sam never saw him again. Years later, he is a techie/daredevil who lives off-city. His father friend Alan (Bruce Boxleitner) comes to his place and tells him about the old Flynn arcade. Sam takes off immediately. Why would he? It would be quite strange just to listen to a friend who told you about a page from a place that's been closed for years. He goes, he activates everything, and finds the office. Then.....ZAP!!! He's transported to the TRON world, where he has many digital adventures. The effects are magnificent, but the laser-aligned sound was sometimes a bit overwhelming. The 1982 original Lightcycle race is recreated. The story is a little off, and there is a strange presence of preperation for slam-bang sequences. Everything is possible in this world: futuristic cycles that form in mid-air, aerial vehicles with turrets and guns, magnificent transporters with sails, etc. Meanwhile, Clu (Jeff Bridges), a tyrannical program scheming to take over our world, is obsessed with finding and defeating Sam, our hero. With help from Quorra (Olivia Wilde) and his dad, Sam plots out to stop Clu. I particularly loved the character of Castor, an eccentric host of a futuristic club played with dazzle by Michael Sheen. Overall, it is a genuine piece of work. I totally recommend it to you users. Make sure to check it out in IMAX 3D, it's awesome. Specifically check it out at the Regal Entertainment Group theater at downtown Atlanta. After all, there's no use sniffing around for perfection when it's right in front of you.
